70 442 Cowl Tag
70 442 Cowl Tag
Please help I'm trying to decipher my Cowl tag
My VIN is: 344670M415111
My Cowl Tag says 34467LAN516082 Does that make sense?
The number on the Oil Fill Tube is: 0365625 Do these numbers appear to be in the correct sequencing? Where else on the engine should I look to mastch the number on the Oil Fill Tube?
Many Thanks.
Jack

(34467) = 442 convertible. (0) = model year: 1970. (M) factory where built = Lansing, Mi. (415111) = production number, production started with 100,001, so yours is the 315,111 car built. The model number is repeated with 34467, LAN = Lansing, Mi. (where built again). 16082 for internal plant, tells you nothing.
Yes,it makes sense. The body number,on the cowl tag, should be different that the VIN.By the looks of it,I would say that your car was built around June/1970.Your build date is also on the cowl tag,on the left side, where the interior trim code is.If the engine is the original engine to the car,the VIN will be stamped on a pad on the block, directly below the cylinder head,on the #1 cylinder(driver's side). If it IS the original engine to your car,it should read 30M415111.This translates to 3 = Oldsmobile,0 = 1970,M = Lansing,415111 = the last 6 digits of the VIN.
