68 442 floor shift column issue

Took the old signal switch out and installed the new one but can’t get the screws to draw in on the column with the new switch in place. Anyone run into this problem? Any good solutions or instructions? I appreciate it!

Did you strip the screw holes? If so, I would try a little larger screw. Also if striped, you can try packing fine steal wool in the hole and may grab, worth a try,

did you pull the wire harness down thru the column before you tightened the screws?

Pull the turn signal switch up out of the way temporarily. Thread each screw into the hole in the column housing. Does it tighten up? If so, your problem is that you don't have the switch all the way into place. If not, you've managed to strip the threads.

Perfect. Thanks guys! I’ll try both options. Goal is to take it for its maiden voyage before Christmas for a present to myself and this was a big sticking point in getting there.
