68 442 Air Cleaner
#3
There are different lengths of snorkels and the 442 is short and wide. Before you buy another one it would be good to find the correct measurements. I know there's several old threads discussing this. When you have time it might be worth trying the search option and reading through these old threads.

68 442 Air Cleaner
Thanks Dean and John.
you mention square hole on drivers side this is for what. I have some that are black , but I think the bases are lower probably for cutlasses or full size models. I will try and look for pictures.
Anyone know were I can get one.

Black ones are factory two barrel in 68
OE is orange which is factory four barrel but different snout it is longer than the 442 air cleaners which are shorter like John mentioned

Here's some pictures of what we've been describing. Sorry, this ones not available as I just picked it up for a 1968 project I'm collecting parts for. John

Yes, that is a '68 unit
Note the ThermAC unit is close to the base or filter. 1969+ it is further down the snout. '68 design requires that black short 90 degree adapter from snout to round hot air tube. There are two types of this adapter, not counting Toronado.
If it says OG and has not an extra added on snout flare at the inlet end, it's a 442/ 98 HC 4-bbl unit. Cutlass snout will have an added-on flare. Easier to spot than snout measuring.
The square hole in the LH side holds the PCV filter, readily available at GM [Chevy uses]. A steel clip holds that to the air cleaner. A short bit of rubber hose connects that to the somewhat hard to find TWO bend steel 5/8" tube to the harder to find 5/8 hole rocker cover grommet.
The two bend PCV tube differs between AC and w/o-AC applications.
