65 442 motor rebuild

Hi all, just a few questions about the rebuild! I have the motor all torn down from what was just being a regasket. Turned out to be the might as well job! I'm at the point of replacing the rod and main bearings even though the originals don't look bad. The Pistons and rings don't appear to be bad either. Am I wrong to just hone the cylinders and reuse the same rings or is this half assed?

I would replace the rings since your there already, its not that expensive. I would also send the heads out to a respected machine shop that knows Oldsmobiles to have them gone through and replace the valve guide seals. I would also inspect the cam and lifters and if there is any sign of wear replace them also. Also replace the timing set, remove the oil pump pickup, and clean all the plastic bits from the screen. Also inspect/ replace the freeze plugs.

Since you've got it dismantled to this point I'd have everything inspected. Also check for taper on the cylinders before deciding between honing and boring.
