1972 W30 Radiator & Tag Question
Stefano,
CE coded 3 core for 3:42 cars. My info shows IA and AA for the tanks on this radiator. There is a questionable OG, as it is mentioned in assembly manual and service manual but not in inspectors guide.
ZR coded 4 core for 3:73 cars. I do not have the tank codes for this radiator. I would like this information if you are looking at a car that is so equipped.
There was a thread about 72 W radiators. Search for my posts to find, as I responded.

Don, I have a PI 4 core I pulled from a 72 Supreme U code car. I did not see the PI code in the assembly manual. Do you have any info for the PI? I sure feel it was the original but it may not be.
I know this is an old thread but to correct the record.... I was looking at old pictures I have of that car and I was wrong. It had the 4 core top plate with the special rubber insulators but it is the 3 core radiator. I sure hope I did not make troubles for anyone on this.
I have 72 Cutlass S and the radiator tank code is OF. Right now it's being re-cored to a 3 row.
Do you know what the IA, AA and 3 digit code under the AA represent on the tank tag?
That is the number stamped on each tank of the radiator. The IA is a real common tank and on most radiators but the other tank is the one that varied most often. I "think" the number is the number for the core but not sure of that. The radiator tag is like an assembly instruction as to what parts go into that radiator.
Here is a picture I robbed off the net. They are not really hand stamped but more stamped from the mold. You can see the stamp on the tank matches the stamp on the tag. The other tank on this one is also an IA. All this put together creates a BK radiator (chevelle)
I’m gathering information on this very topic. My interest lies in the x code cars. The documentation available is very interesting. 1972 production utilized many radiators. The X code cars used a 3 core rad with a 3 core tank on the drivers side and 4 core tank on the passenger side. Compiling a file. Al
