1971 W-30 Fuel Pump

Hi All,

I am looking for the correct, two-line mechanical fuel pump for my 71' W-30. If someone has the Carter or Airtex or other brand name part number that is still currently available, it would be appreciated.

The pump listed on the InLine Tube site is the correct design but according to them, whoever their supplier is has changed the design to the more standard three-line pump which obviously won't work.

Supercars Unlimited also lists the correct pump but they are having trouble right now processing and shipping orders and I need this pump asap to get the car back on the road.

Any assistance with this would be apprecaited.

Sincerely,
Grant

The OEM number is 6470329. Airtex 41566 looks like the best fit, with 40 GPH at 5.25 - 6.5 psi. Unfortunately RockAuto, Amazon, etc all show unavailable. There's at least one on ebay right now.

For what it's worth, the data on RA says both are 40 GHP. When I go to the Airtex on line catalog, their data says 30 GPH for the 41566 but doesn't list any specs for the 40736.

Well, the 40736 obviously doesn't look like the original pump and has an evaporative return line port on it which W cars don't have..

Also, it would be questionable whether this pump would fit under the A/C bracket so I need to zero in on the Aitex 41566 I think for as close to original fit and apprearnce.

I know for a fact the Airtex 40736 pump will clear the R4 compressor brackets on the G body cars. I bet the would clear the A6 brackets as well.

Related to this, can anyone share a picture of how they routed the fuel return out of the fuel filter? The views in the manuals don't explain much.

I curse the engineers whomever came up with that design. It was a mini-purgatory fiddling that thing together. My too short heater hose did not help the situation.

Thx.
