1969 Cutlass Outer Bumper Brace ?

Hi everyone, been awhile since I posted. I have a question regarding the bumper braces for my 1969 442 Cutlass. When I removed my bumpers last year I do not remember seeing the outer/upper most bumper brace being bolted. I was installing my front bumper today and got all the bolts and braces tightened up except the missing most upper braces on the top corners of the bumper.

I just can't get it to line-up perfectly it seems to be a few inched to low.

I found these braces on Fusick, but they are listed for a 70 Cutlass, I was wondering if these would work for on my 69? I am wondering are these what I am missing to get the bumpers lined up.

Here is the braces on Fusick

Thanks guys

Unless your braces are obviously bent, new ones won't change anything. The holes are slotted.

Those (OBB702) appear identical to my 1971 OEM front bumper brackets. If I understand you correctly, yours are missing completely? If you don't have them installed you should install them. When I install the front bumper I get all the braces/brackets installed loosely then start tightening things up. I place a floor jack (with padding on the lift point of the floor jack) under the bumper to assist w/ alignment during installation. If you don't have them installed, you should install them.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood that the braces were completely missing. The parts book says that the 1969 braces have different part numbers from the 70-72 braces.
1969 - P/N 401222 and 401223
1970-72 - P/N 404832 and 404833

I will try that, but would need the missing braces first.

Thank you

Where is a good place to source these 1969 - P/N 401222 and 401223 out??

Or anyone have a set of these available on the site?

I suggest you create a thread in the Parts Wanted forum. I know there are folks who often have bumper brackets/braces etc available. You’ll garner better visibility on Parts Wanted.

Just a quick question before I create a thread in the parts wanted section, in the diagram i posted above the P/N's are 401622 & 401623, but the ones from your parts book say P/N 401222 and 401223. I just want to make sure if I am reading something wrong.

Thanks

I noticed the same difference in part numbers between what Joe posted & the Assembly manual you posted.
Note: Your Assembly Manual was first published Feb 5, 1968 and first used in 1969 - there may have been a delta in part numbers. Joe is probably using the Oldsmobile Parts Catalog. There have been known differences between the two manuals.
My 1971 Assembly Manual demonstrates Part No. 404832 (RH) and Part No. 404833 (LH). My Assembly Manual was first published Jan 2, 1970 with first used date of 1971.
I don't have the Parts Catalog to validate. I think I have a 1969 Assembly Manual and I'll see if my Assembly Manual lists the parts numbers as matching either what you posted or what Joe posted.

I would still post a thread in the Parts Wanted forum despite these differences (until and if we can unequivocally be certain of the correct part number). Title the thread for a 1969 front bumper. Many of the guys are going to post classifieds for the year of the car anyways (for the most part), since they removed the item(s) themselves and they can certainly speak to which year car they removed the parts from.

I checked my 1969 Assembly Manual & my manual demonstrates same numbers you posted 401622 (RH) & 401623 (LH). You might perform an Internet search for all of those numbers and see if some numbers were superseded. Joe or anyone else might have a more definitive answer.

My suspicion is Joe fat-fingered those part numbers or he read them incorrectly. Notice the slight difference in numbers - 401622 versus 401222 - off by one number.
Additionally, GMPARTSWIKI does not demonstrate any part numbers for either 401222 or 401223. GMPARTSWIKI does demonstrate both part numbers 401622 & 401623 and they are both correct for the 1969 F85 model year (bumper brace brackets).

Correct. 401622 and 401623. My mistake. Still not the same as 70-72 cars.

I found a set of bumper braces from Ontario, along with the round trunk light for the 442
