1968 / 1969 speedometer differences?

Curious if the differences on these two speedometers are based on the different model years 68/69 or if it's just a part supplier difference?
Notice the dots versus lines under the numbers.

It sounds like you missed the reply on the other thread. In 1968 the speedometer cable housing screwed onto the back of the gauge. In 1969 it had a spring steel clip that would fit over a lip on the speedometer cable housing. Post a picture of the backs and we can tell you what year(s) you have. John

Thanks, I did see that post before the other thread went away. While I get that you can positively ID based on how the speedometer attaches to the back I just wanted to know if you could tell visually from the front.

OK, one of the 1968 or 1969 guru's will have to help with that. I'm sure someone here knows!

I always thought that they were the same, so I went out to the garage and checked my '69, it's like the one on the right in your pic, with the exception of the auto trans gear indicators. Mine is a 4 speed, so it does not have anything on the bottom.

Agreed! Thanks for posting! There are quite a few differences between the two years.

I seem to remember reading about the high beam indicator being a different color depending on year? My 69 is red, maybe the later cars have blue indicator lenses?
