1967 442 distributor shaft
I am new to asking questions on this site, if the below question belongs somewhere else, I'd appreciate some guidance.
I have a 1967 442, I have the original distributor (1111042) but the shaft is too worn out to be used. Apparently the original owner did not do regular oil changes ......... eventually causing the distributor oil slots to become plugged, leading to extreme wear on the distributors shaft, or at least that is my guess.
I am looking for a replacement shaft for my distributor. Any ideas where I could obtain one. The 1111042 distributor is not easy to find, and if I do find one, its expensive. Does anyone know if the shaft from a Olds 330 engines distributor would work? I believe the 1966 and 1967 Olds 330 distributor's numbers are 1111048 or 1111029. I can find those distributors much easier.

Have you checked to make sure the bushings in the distributor are not work out ? The shaft and bushings could both be worn. There are people that rebuild the distributors. Everyday Performance comes to mind but I don't have contact info.

The correct shaft for your distributor is P/N 1963251. While the shaft in any Olds V8 points distributor will interchange, there are differences in things like the stops for the mechanical advance weights. Fortunately, 1963251 is pretty common. It was used in all 1965-67 high compression BBOs as well as in the 68-70 350 4bbl motors. Any of those distributors is a donor. Failing that, any Olds points distributor shaft can be used but you'll need to put the assembled distributor on a machine to reset the mechanical advance to spec. That usually requires welding and/or grinding the advance limit slot. Of course, the factory advance curve assumes you are using the same gasoline that was available in 1967 and that the engine is totally stock. Any changes from that really require a different advance curve anyway. Good luck.

Joe once again gives excellent advice.
I'll add the date coded main body is what you want to keep. Thankfully most of the internals are fairly easy to come by. I've preserved original distributors by buying a correct replacement from the usual sources and absconding the internals.
