1967 442 with air heater control valve

My car didn’t come with a heater control valve installed on it, and the heater core is bypassed, due to it leaking. When searching online, there seems to be two different types of heater control valves. I’d greatly appreciate if someone could take some under hood pics of their heater control valve installation, to give me an idea of what it looks like. Thanks

Most look line the ones in the link below. At some point in the past some aftermarket versions had a separate vacuum canister.

442's didn't use a water control valve. They used a nipple that's actually called a reducer. It's basically a nipple with a smaller diameter rubber restrictor inside of it. The theory is that the 442 operated @ higher RPM"s and would possibly blow the water control valve,so they just used the reducer to slow water flow.

That makes sense. There is a nipple on the back passenger side of the intake manifold. Would that be it?

I think the Heater valve was only used on cars with AC

The OP says he has a 1967 442 with air. All cars with air used a heater control valve. The correct valve is normally closed and opens with vacuum applied. Most aftermarket vendors get this wrong.

That's not correct. All 442's came with the reducer if A/C or not. If you look in the PIM,the vacuum routing clearly shows it. When I built my 66 3X2,I did use a heater control valve but I used the vacuum routing for the Cutlass models. I did that to keep the hot water out of the heater box when the A/C was being used.

Have you looked in the PIM? I guarantee you that 442s did not use a control valve.

My apologies, you are correct. The parts book also shows the valve application for F85 with CAC except 442. The parts book shows 66-67 442 uses "valve" P/N 393529, but the price for this valve is a fraction of the price for the real water control valves used in other applications, which implies that it is really just a restrictor nipple. My 66 does not have A/C, so frankly I never really paid attention to this detail. Thanks for catching that.

If you look inside of of the 442 reducer, you can see the hard rubber restrictor. If you soak the reducer in carburetor cleaner, it swells and destroys the restrictor.. Ask me how I know.

And this is why I said I think, because I wasn't sure but now I know the correct info. Thanks

Thanks for all your responses, they are greatly appreciated. And as a bonus, a part I don’t have to buy!
