Last time seen, never
Pretty darn rare
I parted out a '64 with 330 and three on the tree years ago
Before I had the "last time seen, never" rule, so numerous unique features were lost to the ages due to youthful ignorance. Guide your youngsters while you can.

The member Keener created a post a few months ago trying to do research on 1964 factory 4 speed cars. I think he only got two replies. For whatever reason I don't think they built very many 4 speeds with V6 or V8 combinations that year. John

John is correct, I received very few replies. Some PMs. Regardless, can you please provide me with the build month on the data tag and the frame number and month-day-year stamped onto the frame rail behind the driver side rear tire. A picture would be great! Thanks for your effort.

With a little math you can figure out how many manual trans 64s were built.

To answer the OPs question. The 4-speed was optional for both the V6 and V8 ending. The standard synchromesh transmission for both the V6 and V8 was a 3-speed. The V6 cars received a 3.23 rear gear, while the V8s had a 3.08 with low compression 2bl option or 3.23 with high compression 4bbl option. I cannot comment on production numbers because data is lacking.

Thanks Jasen, I figured you would chime in with this document. I've added these numbers up in the past. Total F85 production was 176,679 (give or take a few because document clarity was difficult for the Lansing plant), and the difference when subtracting off the Jetaway trans was around 24,547 (again, give or take a few because of clarity with the Lansing numbers). Of the manual trans, there is no way to tell how many were 3spd vs 4spd. A conservative guess would be 50/50. Maybe someone else can review this document to confirm my numbers. I added these up years ago and my eyes were bad then and are no better now. thanks

There were at least 2,999 cars built with a 330 and 4spd in the 1964 model year...

I haven't really had time to compile documents I've obtained from the GM Heritage Center, not to mention how to read the numbers since they're done in a more unconventional manner than what I'm used to from Oldsmobile.
I do show 5,158 for M20 for F85. Below that I also show the following:
010: 231
100: 370
200: 4,557
That looks like F85, F85 Deluxe, and F85 Cutlass, respectively. Add the three and you get 5,158. So far so good?
The car that Joe referred to is a special sporty F-85 separate from the F85 Club Coupe. It came standard with buckets but only had the V6. If I'm reading this right, only 197 were built with M20. (627 had the M11 3-speed.)
To the OP, please tell me your model number per the VIN and I have an answer for you.
To the rest of yuz, I currently don't know if the tally I have includes 4-4-2 cars or not, but I suspect with more research I'll be able to figure it out. If I could guess, the 4-4-2 numbers are separate, but that we all can figure out at another moment.

It has been 20 years ago, but I had a '64 sport coupe 225 v6 4 speed.
On the dash it said F-85 deluxe. Had the chrome around the doors, the trim panel between the tail lights. Also a bench seat, black on black.
Again one of those "I wish I had not sold it"

Wow, a lot of great information here. I should probably put this on another thread but does anyone have any info on 65's? Like 1965 f-85 4-speed wagons? I have two of them and have never been able to confirm any type of a production number.
#29
They're both 3635's, so f-85 Deluxe V8, 4d Station Wagon. One is a Lansing car with the "L" code, the other one is from Fremont.
On a side note I got an email from a guy in OR who has a Lansing built 64 4-speed wagon.
Thanks

This is what I am showing - help me translate this.
So I think before I figured out:
0 = F85
1 = F85 Deluxe
2 = Cutlass
So "135" would be your wagon, perhaps? It shows 81 built, which is a lot higher than I'd expect.
I'd hate to spread misinformation, but I only show two other 1-series cars (127 and 169) so, per Joe's post above, I think this would be correct. No idea what engines were paired with the 4-speed.
FWIW, 672 had the 3-speed. I don't have figures for the automatics (which would help total the numbers to match total production) but that's simply because I didn't gather the info from the GM Heritage Center.

That is correct for 1964. The body numbers and VIN changed in 1965.

Rick, what part of Oregon is he in? I'm in Medford down in the SW part of the state. Please let him know if he wants to network with other Olds owners there's several of us from Oregon on this site. John

Well, there ya go - rare, but prob not as rare as you thought. I reckon with different engine combos, it gets rarer anyway. If that info exists, I don't have it, but it should be in other pages of the document I have from the GM Heritage Center.
