Hi all, New here. I am picking up a 64 F85 tomorrow. It is in amazing shape for its age, 27 year barn find. last register 1983. It has a 804M vin 3027 style 915 trim. 02c manufacture date It has the 330 4v 3sp manual.
I have done a lot reading and picture viewing the last week, but have a few question someone here may be able to answer.
1. The info above states its a standard club coupe. Was the 290hp 4v available for this model? Appears to be original.
2. The tail pan is like no other models I have viewed in pictures. It just has the OLDSMOBILE letters between the taillights, instead of the full trim piece.
3. The emblems on front fenders has F85 then below a separate emblem V8. Different than any others I've been able to find.
Going to try and attach a few pics. Thanks for any info. Chad
The base F-85 was offered in only three styles, Club Coupe, Station Wagon, and Four-Door Sedan.
Yes, you could have ordered the 290 HP version of the V-8 in any F-85. Below is the dealer specs book page for the '64 F-85. See option L-74, available on any F-85 with a V-8.
The "8" as the first digit of the VIN indicates V-8 engine. The other possibility was a "6" for a V-6.
The third digit being a "4" just says 1964 model year, so every Olds built that year has a 4 in the third spot.
As far as the tail panel, I don't know. Every one I've ever seen looks like what's shown in the image on the left below, which is from the '64 Olds "Prestige" brochure.
As far as the fender emblems, we can't see the one on your car very well, but from what we can see, it looks like the one on your car matches what's shown in the brochure image.
I'm guessing that this is what the emblems on your car look like up close?

The green car in that brochure is an F-85 Deluxe, not a base F-85.
Joe, I see it. I have had the same thing happen a couple times before.
Not the first time it's happened to me, either. I finally inserted the photo using direct HTML tags instead of the forum function and it seems to have worked.
