1964 442 Alternator

I have a 1964 442. The alternator number that’s on the car now is1100656. The date code is correct. Does anyone know if the part number of 1100656 is the correct number for the original alternator?

Anyone on here w/a 1964 Assembly Manual?? (ie - Product Information Manual)....if the manual is like the '70 manual (and other years) it might have a page showing the various alternator stamping numbers used, etc (and things like engine pulleys).

Several of us would pay a premium for a 1964 PIM. The 63 and 65 are available, the 64 not so much.

My Jan 1965 parts book shows 1100633 for 1964 with A/C and 1100629 without A/C. Note that these are replacement part numbers and may or may not be the same as what was installed on the assembly line.

Thanks Joe - I didn't realize that the '64 PIM's were hard to find. WTH??? Other years readily attainable and for some reason not the case w/'64.

My books show a 657, but the 656 may be correct especially if it has the correct date code. I would stick with it until someone challenges it with evidence.

For what it is worth, my 1964 4- speed Cutlass has the 1100656 unit, which I believe to be original. My Parts and Accessories Chassis Catalog 1965 Edition calls out the unit as 1100629. My service manual(1964) lists 616,657,658,664,659,663,656,629 as possible rebuild numbers. As a side note I was under the impression that the original 1964 Cutlass 442 did not come with power steering or A/C, at least my original newly(64) purchased 442 was delivered in that configuration.

Your impression is incorrect. All of those were available options. A/C was rare on the 64 442s (and frankly still pretty uncommon on 1964 cars period) but it was available for an extra $430.46.
