I guess it may be a dumb question, but it's something I'm not sure I can answer. Is it age only?

 

Just my personal opinion... any Olds is a classic anymore.

 

It's not a dumb question, just really general anymore.

Some states have Classic and Antquie plates while others only have Antquie.

What kind of car it is and the rareness of the car, the Buick GN was a classic around 1990 and they stopped making the car in 1987

 

I guess my answer could have been better stated. I did not mean to come off as uppity. The intent of the statement is that in my opinion, as Oldsmobiles are no longer produced, and have not been for some time, they are all to one degree or another a relatively rare and collectible car, or more recently, truck. Legally speaking, as far as registration goes, in Wisconsin you must have a primary vehicle that is registered and it must be (the classic car) 18 "I think" years or older. to be considered a "collector" and 25 years to be an "Antique". I am not entirely sure of this, but think it is at least close. Other states have differing laws. I hope this helps, and an sorry about coming off snotty

 

Chad, I don't think you will get any argument from the folks around here. All Oldsmobiles are classics now. Of course, I would take a 60s or 70s Olds over a 2001 Alero any day.

 

 

Well now I don't feel so dumb. I'm getting a 1987 Olds Regency Touring Sedan from an elderly friend. It's in good shape and has 79K on it and has the FE3 handling package, buckets seats and floor shifter.

At first I thought I would sell it (can use the dough) but then I started to really like the car. On research, I found zip on them, so I posted to a couple of other sites.

Actually got scolded on one forum cause an administrator didn't consider it suitable for the "classic" category (I don't agree - I think it is or soon will be worthy of being called a classic).

Anyway, would love to hear any thoughts or other history regarding this vehicle from any in the know.

 

yea i would have to say my 80s cutlass is a classic in its own standings.

Chad, I think also you were perhaps inquiring because of the website name "Classicoldsmobile.com". I don't know what was in the mind of the site owner and developer when he named this site, we don't see much of him. I think he has other car themed web sites as well.

An 87 is better than twenty years old now. I used to work for a dealership in the detail department that fleased these vehicles. VERY nice cars for their day. I wanted one then. I still do. Good performers, taught handling, leather everywhere. At the time I was bombing around in a 63 impala, that was rust up to the door handles and a 74 cutty supreme on a marshmallow suspension though, so my opinions may be skewed. Nice ride, post pics

Personally, I consider anything pre-1985 a classic. But the antique rule, as posted above, is typically anything 25 years or older.
