Steering Wheel
Steering Wheel
I was wondering if anyone knew where to get a replacement steering wheel. I ahve a 69-442-con. gold interior trm#934. My wheel has a crack a good one in it. It works but looks bad. I have tried some junk yards but no luck.Does anyone have an idea where one could be bought? Changing it will be the next project.I took the cover off,and the center nut, that as far as i got. Rocking it did not work to get it off. Thanks for any advice...Larry
There are two types of 69 Steering wheels.
The standard one bar across and the deluxe, scarce as hens teeth, 69 only, 3 spoke N-34 custom sport steering wheel. If you have the former, keep looking, if you have the custom sport, sell your house and keep looking. I've seen plain Jane Black ones go for close to a grand on evil bay.
Seriously, you might be better off having the one you have refurbished.

I have seen many a 70-73 4 spoke wheel on a 69. Here's what they look like. They are much cheaper and more easily obtained

I would love an original one,but my odds of finding one seem slim.As i mentioned, I tried junk yards but nothing. Itis definately a hard part to find. It is the only thing that makes my interior look shabby...That big crack bothers me..
Have you considered the steering wheel repair and restoration kits such as the one sold by Eastwood?
The Eastwood kit is an epoxy filler that then requires that you paint the wheel. There are companies that actually remold the plastic, but as you can imagine they are priced accordingly.
Here's a Exorcist pea green 1969 N-34 that so far is cheap. Maybe you could redo this one for your car.

Thanks Joe. I saw it on ebay last night as I cannot access that site at work. I think that is the ticket, besides the wrong color and the 2 clips being broken on the center cap.Is htere anyplace that you know of that can dye the wheel, and possibly get new clips. I think that might be a problem. I appreciate all your advice. Larry

For that price you could probably get the original redone professionally and still have money left over.
Hi there,
I had mine redone at gary's steering wheel restauration. It came out great. His website is http://www.garyssteeringwheel.com/, and take a look at the gallery how the steering wheels come out. I payed for the regular steering wheel aprox. 550$. That's really not cheap, but it looks like a brand new steering wheel and the car drives better since the steering wheel glides through your hand so easily.

I would like to thank everyone for their advice. I really appreciate the input. I saw that wheel on ebay, and that was a little more than I wanted to spend, considering that wheel needed to be restored also. There is a restoration shop near where I live that says they can re do it. I will check them out and see.
