VIN decode 76 cutlass supreme

Well, a page on ClassicOlds, with a link to this one in the first post, was the first hit when I googled "Olds VIN decoder 1976": https://service.gm.com/dealerworld/v.../vincard76.pdf
And this was the second hit:
http://v8cars.hu/oldsvin/decode.php

The factory service manual, which will be infinitely helpful in so many other ways as well.

and similar
best $25 ever spent.
ps there isn't all that much in a 1976 VIN- Olds division, specific model, model year. Maybe the engine in vague terms... 350 vs 455.

Welcome to the CO. Well I believe Eric has you covered in this thread and Allan has you covered in the other one.
Interesting the series "S" stands for Omega F85. Personally I've never heard of an Omega being called the F85 or the F85 edition. Series "B" would be the standard Omega. Hmm...

Why? All he wanted at this time is some help decoding his VIN? Simple and easy peasy. Hmmm, Free info vs. 25.00? No brainer Chris. A CSM could be in his future, but for now I think he's got his answer.

Scot, have a look at the full model line from this Olds brochure (1976). Omega f85 is second column, second from bottom.
Also noted on this page - item 7. It's as basic as you can get and still have an Olds.

Thanks Al. I knew the F-85 to be a bare bones A-body, but never heard of the X-body F-85. There were definitely more Chebby Disco Novas around these parts back then. Just never paid attention I suppose.

Remember when nearly every car Olds made was called a "Cutlass" of some form or another?

What, you don't remember "downsizing" after the 1973-74 oil crisis? GM made cars smaller and more fuel efficient by recycling nameplates onto smaller platforms. There was the X-body F-85 Omega, the G-body Bonneville, and the X-body Skylark.
