Tex,

Try this for the VIN: http://members.aol.com/drewinva/olds/vin/

Try this for the SX: http://www.sx455.com/

"Supreme 44"???? Ya got me on that one, Tex. I got no clue.

Well, it belongs to my friends neighbor. My friend called me on Sunday to tell me that he found a cutlass. When my friend was giving me information on it, he told me it had the emblem SX on it and he also told me it had the letters 44-supreme, or something like that. I was thinking maybe it was ment to say 442 but the number 2 was no longer there. How can I tell if this is a true 442? Can you tell by the vin number?

Not a 442 per the VIN...check out Drew's page. It could still be an SX, as it was a Cutlass Supreme option package rather than a seperate model.

yeah, Im pretty sure it is a SX. It has the cut out rear bumber, bucket seats. All original car. I think Im gonna buy it. I should get some pics of it in my email box tonight. From what my friend told me, he said the car is a big project. I will probably just end up buying it and then reselling it or parting it.

Email the webmaster at sx455.com. He knows more than pretty much anybody about these cars.

tex70 can we assume you are from Texas? I would like some of those 442type parts (Buckets console, etc...) if you part it out. However location is always an issue.

Right now the car is still in Houston. If I did end up buying it, I will probably just end up selling it whole instead of parting it out. From what the owner tells me it's a pretty good project but it's all original. It still has the bucket seats, console everything is there. As soon as I get some pics I'll post them here. If I do decide to buy it I'll probably ask $1800 for the whole car.

Pics added

Here are a few pics the seller emailed me. Now I know what he means by big project. What scares me, is what might be under that vinyl... He also has the fender on the passenger side off, because it was smashed up, but he does have the repalcement fender.

Great options - If I was closer I'd come and get it.... If you buy it and need donor sheetmetal, I am cutting up a New Mexico '72 Supreme body shell in PA and will have a rust free cowl and also the roof and rear window area where that one is rusted.

I'm also one of the principals of sx455.com so I have a keen interest in what happens to this car.

The various letters in the VIN denote the assembly plant. "E" is the assembly plant in Linden, New Jersey.
