Mopar Hurst? WTF

Looks like Mopar is stealing the Shelby GT 350 Hertz and the 69 H/O color combinations for a new ride. What is this world coming to?

Heh, you snooze you lose. In all honesty GM is lagging. Mopar has the oldschool Challenger, Ford the oldschool Mustang, GM has the new and improved, oddly styled, (imho) Camaro. They're a finance company who makes cars on the side. HMM poked fun at them last year, and they deserved it.

Actually, the Hurst/Dodge connection predates the Hurst/Olds. In 1968, Chrysler had Hurst drop 426 Hemi motors into the Dart body for use in NHRA Super Stock classes.

There was also a Chrysler 300H (for Hurst) built in 1970.

Either way the color combo is Hurst, not Olds, so the grump seems moot to me

426 hemi is a lot of motor for a little dart. I'd often wondered how a 340 would do in my '66, prolly kill myself.

That is an awsome car. If I didn't own an Oldsmobile I would definitely own a MOPAR. Those new Challengers are HERCULIAN.

71 Hurst Jeeepster "Commando"
[with 68 442 fender stripe]

http://www.hurstjeepster.com/history.htm

The car is "Commando" but not Linda

I think.................... but who knows?

Maybe both are Commando

When GM dropped the Olds they screwed up. Should have Dropped the Buick. We would still be in the game

Yep been Hurst asociated with MoPar for years. Us OLD guys remember. 65 Hurst Barracuda "Hemi under glass" Dick Landy was always dealing with Hurst. I think Hurst goes good with any of the big 3. I guess GM and Chrysler have also called off any more talks about the merger. GM would have just phased them out and that didn't need to happen. Chrysler is now talking with Nissan Oh well it isn't like they didn't work with Mitsubishi a looooong time ago. Even Simca back in the 60's

Well, it's on the internet, so it MUST be true...

I especially like this part:

Without a doubt, the rarest option for this automobile is the Hurst shifter - its a real conversation item.
Yeah, rare as in one-of-none. The original Hurst dual gate WAS sold (by HURST, in the aftermarket) for the Hydramatic trans, but Olds did NOT install it from the factory. The seller makes this sound like some ultra-rare factory car. It is NOT a "Hurst-Starfire". It's simply a Starfire with an aftermarket Hurst shifter installed. Yes, the dealer MAY have installed it, or someone else may have installed it. He has no documentation and frankly, I'm continually at a loss to understand why "dealer installed" items are such a big deal. Do "dealer installed" floor mats carry a price premium?

My Delta had a dealer-installed bug deflector when I got her in June. It was a Hurst 'Dual-Bug' deflector. Works on moths AND junebugs. Must be worth a fortune.

Special or not it's still a nice looking ride. I'd sure like to have something like it. Was trying to get that one brklin bob had, or has, but got slammed with some unexpected repairs on the truck. between that and freight being slow right now there just isn't any play money in the coffers.

I was also impressed to read in the description of that '64 Starfire on Hemmings that it had "around" 600 ft/lbs of torque.
