Horn Cap

Hello,

The center horn cap on my 72 cutlass is cracked. It is the sport steering wheel 4 spoke. Can this plastic cap be popped out from underneath the rubber seal and easily replaced ???

If you are talking about the clear center piece with the rocket emblem inside it, yes. Gently work it out with a small screwdriver. Replace it the same way. Now, getting just the center part will be the big problem, but I've done this to convert a Buick center into an Olds center.

I made a center for an old sport wheel i had by cutting a round flat piece of plastic out and sticking an SSI ctr cap emblem on. looks better than a crack but not as good as a nice sport wheel cap

Tacking your question onto the end of an unrelated thread is probably not the best way to get an answer (nor is asking the same question in multiple forums) so I merged it into this identical thread.

I agree with Joe finding just the center is a trick. But do as he says and also if you take it and put it in a cup of hot water it will be more pliable to work with.

The best way is to drill out the three rivets (carefully) and the cap comes apart easily. Watch eBay for the centers----new ones are usually about $50.00, but I have seen auctions for new ones that ended around $40.00. There are two styles--the differences are so minute that only a finicky judge would know.

I've never had to do that.

I changed a Buick center one time to a 68 Cutlass center for a friend so he could put a three spoke Buick wheel on his Cutlass. Looked great. Just popped out the 68 Cutlass center with a small screwdriver like Joe said.
