Vintage Pics Recreated - '76 Ninety Eight Regency "The Olds"

I am very happy to have finally had the opportunity to recreate a picture from my childhood. The first pic is of me with my dad when he had just purchased The Olds. He bought the car in May of '79 and this was taken the same summer. I was just shy of 3 years old.

These pics could not be more priceless to me.

Fast Forward 35 years and now The Olds is fully restored and my son is the same age I am in the original pic.

All 3 generations with The Olds. Doesn't get much better than that!

And just one beautiful shot of The Olds.

John, what a fantastic opportunity you have there. I think the term is "picture perfect". Thank you for sharing!

Neat.

Wish I had more pix of cars my father had when I was young ...

Talk about missed opportunities.

Was only 8 years old myself in May of 79'.

Would be something to see this pic re-created again with different generations as time goes on.

John, the 3-generation picture reminds me of what my Aunt Rene says-

"We are Oldsmobile people"

She just turned 90 and still has her own 2000 Cutlass, though she no longer drives. But she has traveled millions of miles behind the wheel of an Oldsmobile...

Thanks guys. I'm just glad the weather held out and everyone's schedules lined up to make this finally happen before the end of the season. I had just about put the car into hibernation when I realized we were going to be able to do this. If it had to wait until Spring, my son would have been older than I was in the original and it just wouldn't have felt as authentic to me.

I plan to frame these for the garage soon enough.

It's nice to see how things this can be really appreciated by others.

I hope to be able to do this again in another 35 years.

HAHA, I had thought of doing something like that but I wanted to make it real and not silly. I could have gone crazy and tried to match the clothing, etc. but that was going to be a little too much. Times change as do people.

The car itself is different now too. Aside from being a ground-up restoration, there are tons more options on the car now than when new. I kept her looking very much the same as how she came off the line but she's built the way I would have ordered her.

I have lots of other pics of The Olds from back in the day. As I keep digging up pics of her from her (and my) youth, I will see about recreating more of them with my son and/or daughter.

Not to take anything away [from the last pic], but it's just a car (an awesome car to be sure), but the third pic defines it all...it is a part of your family. Beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.

Olds

You should have taken a recent picture of your dad holding you in front of the Olds!

The timing of these pics really couldn't have been any better, especially with Thanksgiving being only a few days after we took them.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Thanks Red. My dad is very proud of me and the car, as is my mom. They both just smile whenever they see The Olds, knowing how much family history the car has and how much it has meant to all of us over the years. Just about every person in my entire family has been in that car and it used to take us everywhere for a very long time. The restoration was not only for me but for my family and for the car as well.

What's funny is how I've reconnected with some friends from my childhood after about 25 years and every one of them has asked about the black Olds. They are always thrilled to hear that she's still around.

You are absolutely right about being a blessed family. We really are incredibly lucky. Thank you for your thoughts. Have a great holiday!

Very cool! Your dad looks like a great guy.
I love the ride of the '75-'76 Olds, Cadillac & Buick luxo-barges.
They float down the road like nothing ever built. It makes me miss my '75 Electra 225.
I see your car grew bumper guards.

HA, good catch! She's grown a huge list of options since back then actually. From the outside, you can also see the RH mirror, LH mirror thermometer, cornering lights, and wide white walls. There are lots more on the inside that I've added.

You're right about the ride of these cars. I'm sure your Electra was a really nice car too. I really like the Buicks of these years too. Better than some of the Caddies.

And thank you, my dad is a great guy. It's great to see all 3 generations together in the new photos.

It's funny, I didn't even pick up on the fact that my son's shirt had a # 3 on it....sort of ironic since we are both about 3 years old in the pics, the car too in the first shot!
