Map light mirror repair

Does anyone know if I can have the ugly glass part of my map light equipped rear view mirror replaced? And who might do it if it is possible? I know they are not available as re-pops. I might be willing to try it myself if someone has any experience here. Thanks.

Yes, there are a couple different places where you can send the glass and have it re-silvered. Last one I did cost around $35 including shipping and came back looking excellent. The place I used was in Chicago but don't recall the name. I'm sure there are several other threads having to do with restoration of those maplights. Try searching and they should come up.

In the past I noticed people advertising in Hemmings that could do this.

Some of us have successfully done this our selves. It does take some care and patience. If you all ready have a replacement mirror, you might try this. You just have to be careful and maybe use a little heat when removing the seal. A hair dryer will work just fine.

The proper tool helps too. That could be just about anything you are comfortable with when prying...like a screw driver or a butter knife...or something else.
