Does anyone know who makes a complete 2 1/4 aluminized or stainless, mandrel bent exhaust for manifolds for a 69 442 ? I want 2 1/4 down pipes and tail pipes. I think 2 1/2 will be too big and not look right under there?

I believe Gardner http://www.gardnerexhaust.com/ makes the most "correct" system you can buy, from everything I can gather. Pricey but "the best". (No personal experience)

 

Kurt I saw those exhausts, but they are only 2" tail pipes. I want something a little less restrictive that sounds better than stock. The car is not really a prestine show car and I drive it, so Im not really worried about it being totally correct.
I just recently re-disscovered how much I really do enjoy driving it.

I'm pretty sure nobody makes 2 1/4" mandrel bent. You can get the factory-correct pipes (which are not mandrel bent and which have 2" tail pipes, as you point out) or you can get aftermarket mandrel bent 2 1/2" or 3" systems.

If you want something that LOOKS factory correct, you can use the 2 1/4" tail pipes from a 1970 GTO. These will need some mods at the ends to get the trumpets to fit the bumper, but the only other alternative is custom bent.

 

Check Torquetech and Pypes. 2.5" won't look much different and will flow around 20% more air.

 

In that case, 2-1/2 inch by all means!

I think inline tube has some stuff too I would also look a ram air restorations .

 

If your car is a driver and you don't race it or show it then just have a local exhaust shop install new pipes. I had 2.5 inch aluminized pipe installed on my 71 98 with a cross pipe and tips for about $300. The HP loss from running non mandrel bent pipes is completely undetectable with my "butt-dyno."

 

Man I need to move to the US. Everything is so much cheaper down there. The cheapest I got quoted up here was $600

 

Does that price include the mufflers? The $300 I paid didn't include about $150 I spent on two 45" Thrush glasspacks. I bought them from the auto parts store.
