That is the question...
I'm registered for an AACA event tomorrow but rain is pretty much in the forecast the whole day and it's supposed to start around 4 tomorrow morning. I paid $65 for registration and food, so what should I do? Take the hot rod and enjoy the day as much as I can or stay home?

Mind you, it's being held at a local church, so we will be able escape inside.

I've never really had it out in the rain, so I dunno how the Cooper Cobras are gonna behave...

Go or stay home?

 

The car won't melt and the Coopers will drive fine in rain.

Dave - This is the AACA Old Dominion event, right? You're getting "roughly" the same rain amounts as me & it's not going to be a very heavy rainfall - expectations are ~0.04" - 0.9" per hour for several hours. Shouldn't be so bad. I'd go.

I like driving mine in the rain. I beat the tar out of it without burning the tires up.

Yep. it's a tough old car, it's been through much worse than some rooster tails!

 

I never drive my beauties in the rain or bad weather. Takes too long to clean and polish the underneath and exterior. I would not go if weather called for rain.

Put me in the camp of not driving in the rain, only because I'm too lazy to do a forensic cleanup afterwards.

 

I once asked a very good friend who has done work on all my cars why my Cutlass undercarriage was so damned dusty/dirty. He answered, "Because you drive it! A lot!"

I drove mine in the torrential Gulf Coast rainstorms for 20+ years. I am wondering what your main concern is?

 

To me, it's not the CAR that I'm worried about getting wet, it's ME. I just don't like the idea of standing around all day in the rain holding an umbrella. I can't sit in my folding chair because it's wet. I can't leave the car's windows down nor the hood or trunk lid up. Everyone else keeps their hoods down and trunks and windows closed, so you can't see everything with the other cars there.

It just literally puts a "damper" on everything.

Having said this, though, if the call is for intermittent or short-term rain, so there's a chance there'll be dry periods, I'd go.

I took home a Driver Participation badge. It's still a judged class, but with a bit more leniency.

I would have gone, especially after paying for a meal. Plus, the wipers on the 71 don't even work.
