My buddy at work just asked me which lift I have because he wanted one and could not find a cheap one. I told him mine was decently cheap. Imagine my surprise:
:
I would have never considered getting at lift at this price. Never. I had to get this style due to a 10 foot ceiling height at my old house, but I don't have that constraint now. I had thought about selling the old hose with the lift in it and just buying a a new one. I'm really glad I took the time to move it
I JUST bought a 4 post lift for my home shop 8k lbs I set it up, cost me $3200.00. MY 2 post was 3800.00. 9k lbs. SCISSOR JACKS I'am not wild about. Very limited as to what you can do. for a little more he could of got a 2 post > much more versatile I think
Those prices don't seem too bad for a big ticket auto hobby tool. Think about how much you would pay for an aftermarket EFI system, wheels or turbocharger/supercharger parts. I'm sure OE body panels for a concours restoration are just as expensive.
I don't have a lift and it would be pretty far down my list for future purchases.
My opinion is if you can inspect a quality brand name used lift before it's removed, you're better off buying used.
I paid $825 for my used Rotary 9k two post at a local Ford dealership auction and five years later I have had zero problems with it. It's the best tool I own.
I'm planning on going with quick jack. Problem is I have a 2800 lb, 4000 lb and 5000 lb car. The 5000 lb is a SUV so most work can be done without lifting. The 3500 would work on the 2800 lb car, but not the W-31. Decisions...........
You can buy used 2 posts all day long between 1000 and 2000 dollars. And everywhere in between these two prices.. many let you come and see it working first, then you have to dismantle and put it together at your place… or hire someone to do it.
I’ve been using a Quickjack 5000TL since last year. I am extremly happy with it. I simply don’t have the room or ceiling height for anything else.
Space is at a premium, when not in use I hang it on the wall out of the way.
Exactly my plan. I'm in a two car garage with 8' ceilings, so space is and issue. I'm thinking of hanging it on the outside of my shed, locking it and building doors to hide/protect it.
I've got the QuikJack 5000 but rather than store it on the wall I just keep the rails under a car in one of my 2 garage bays. Out of sight out of mind and I have never clobbered it on the way in or out of the garage.
I bought a QuickJack 7000TL two years ago. I use it to lift my two Toronados ('77 and '78) and my '73 Delta 88. The Toros each weigh close to 5,000 lbs. I ended buying the frame extensions which work better for longer frames. The jack has worked very well.
