Ignition Switch Upgrade Advice?
Ignition Switch Upgrade Advice?
I've finally got some extra money and am thinking about doing a couple mods on my 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass. I'm thinking about changing out my ignition switch and adding a Push Button. I'm wondering if anyone has done this mod? I saw some kits on eBay but they look way too cheap and I don't trust Chinese crap anyway. I also found a couple systems made here in the states, one is by Flaming River who I know and trust; https://www.flamingriver.com/rfid-ke...nition-systems and another by www.digitalguarddawg.com/auto . They totally look like the same systems to me just with different names on the boxes. a big price difference though. Has anyone done this mod and used any of these systems? I'm wondering how hard they are to install?
The Guard Dawg company has a bunch of cool start buttons, https://www.digitalguarddawg.com/ike...tton-options-2 I can do basic wiring but don't want to get in over my head. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Seems like a lotta cash and work for minimal benefit (to me, at least). If not replacing the entire column with one of their touch start ones, you need to disable your steering lock and sacrifice that bit of security. I can think of many other places I could invest a grand or two in my car for good improvements!
Be sure to post photos of the process if you go ahead with it.

Of all the things you could spend extra money on ...
Sorry, but that's what you're going to get when you post a strange idea on a forum largely populated by old farts.

I installed one of the Guard Dawg systems in a friend's car. As Joe said, the steering wheel lock is mechanical, and will be lost, unless you retain the key. It adds another step to starting your car. Now, you could get all crafty and add an electric solenoid from a newer car, but that also increases the chances of component failure. It also adds a level of security, however, nothing can protect your car from a rollback.
