oil filter housing gasket direction

Which side faces block and is any sealant needed??
....as always ty for all the help

It only fits one way. No sealer is needed.

i think i have oil on my brain...geez..how unobvious i've become.....ty for the time to reply

I do put some sealer--rtv, permatex, or whatever on the gasket, and incrementally tighten the bolts.

If you choose to use sealant do it very sparingly. I'd use Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket only on the raised portions/lines.
