1966 harmonic balancer

know where I can buy a new harmonic dampener ? 1966 425. All I’m seeing from parts stores is a 1968 part that needs to be machined down. Any suggestions ? Are these not sold anymore?

If you can find one from a 330, it will work too. I used one on my 66 400, it was fine.

Blue is a 455 for comparison. Some sites say to have a machine shop turn down the 455 . I’m guessing on a lathe take down some of the weighted item on the back?

The 425 balancer is internally balanced and the 455 is externally balanced. Just do it the right way and have a 425 rebuilt unless you can find a good used unit.

Both are externally balanced engines, but there is less counter balance in a 330-early 400-425 balancer than in the later ones for the 350-late 400-455.

surprised there isn’t a unit with removable weights. Swap weights like a flywheel.

Damper Dudes is another good place for a rebuild. I used them on the 54 I had and they did an excellent job.

I am running an SFI-approved Pro-Race damper. which has a removable counter weight. It is sold for a 455. I had it re-balanced for my early 400 and am using the 455 timing tab because the mark on the damper is in a different place and the damper is a slightly different OD.
