Friend of mine who lives in Ohio is trying to use this 04B intake on his 455, as you can see he cannot get the cap on the distributor due to such tight clearance..is a stock points distributor..anybody run across this? Is grinding the runner the answer? Appreciate any insight
The old O4B intake won't clear an HEI distributor. Your points distributor will work fine though. If you want to "UPGRADE" the points distributor you can always install a Pertronix kit in it.

Not to be rude but the photos clearly show a stock points distributor will not clear it..he cannot even put the cap on it.

I used an O4B for years with the stock points distributor. It will work, but is a tight fit. Very little room for timing adjustment, but you can do it. I could get 14* of advance. The main thing is to keep the vacuum canister and the cap screws out of the way
To me the intake looks its sitting to far back….you need to dry fit the intake with the gasket he’ll be using, push it forward and tighten it down …then see what you have
it is a tight fit….just have to jam it forward on final install
I run a 04B with a stock distributor. There is a very specific place mine lines up and allows tuning adjustment. You can't just rotate the distributor 360 like you can with a stock manifold. The ears where the cap hold down screws will hit. You may have to re-index the distributor drive gear to the cam gear. Line up your top dead center/zero mark on your balancer so you know where you are starting. Lift the distributor up clear and the set it back down one tooth over in the direction you need to go. I'll try to get out to the barn later and take a picture. Tom
