Restore exterior of olds 98 fuel tank
Restore exterior of olds 98 fuel tank
My fuel tank is clean as a whistle inside, but the exterior is a bit grimy with some corrosion. I know that these have some coating similar to galvanizing from the factory. I am pretty sure that some or most of this coating is intact, but not all of it. I had originally planned to wire brush or media blast and then use Eastwood products to paint the outside, but the pictures I see look really shiny silver and not very original. Remove rust and clear coat? Cold galvanizing paint? Any recommendations to keep the tank looking as OEM as possible?
I'm not sure what the factory did when they coated fuel tanks, but I would highly recommend any products you can buy from Eastwood. When I sealed the inside of the fuel tank of my 71 98 I painted the outside with hammered finish silver Rustoleum. It looks pretty good but of course it's not concours.
