Alright, so I'm gonna start off with this; I refuse to put the hood back on. Open engine bay all the way.

Now with that said, I'm losing some chrome work and it leaves the front a little lacking. Any suggestions on what I can do to make it look more appealing? I've been told to cut the front of the hood off and mount that over the radiator support cover. I've also been told to cut the hood basically to the edges and put it on, but I feel like that has its own issue.

Dying to put them on one of my Cadillac's. Since I moved back to Texas. This one is good for taking out pedestrians walking too slow, crossing the road.

Remove the hood latch mechanism and install a small aluminum keg gas tank "gasser style" in its place right above the center grill bar

 

That space definitely needs to be filled...the front end looks incomplete/projectish without it. I think the suggestion of cutting down a hood is along the right track...maybe straight across at a midway point on the top plate with some metal fabricated as a round down at the back edge. That, or a fibreglass mold of the hood with mods to make it flow.

The only other thing I can think of is just some sheet metal bent to fill the space above the grill and lights, folding over the top edge...just something to smooth things out and hide the under structure.

 

I actually have a Miller lite mini keg that I had strapped to the front for a time (used as coolant overflow), but I'd like to mount it more securely than massive hose clamps. Any suggestions that don't involve welding?

I would personally cut a hole in the hood and put the hood back on, but I know you are opposed to that.

I think that this car has a "partial hood" covering the radiator cover which is probably like what you were describing. I like this a lot since it completes the visual of the front end but leave the engine exposed.




Looking at 67 Gassers, I like the front end of the top one of these more than the bottom one. Both are pretty cool, though.

I'll look into cutting my hood to do the first pic..I'm also not running a front bumper, so that probably won't help

 

I had same dilemma once upon a time , I cut one hood in a huge u shape , another I cut just past fan shroud, and yet another I went right part the the steering res. I ending using the one I cust just past the fan shroud the most as it was never in the way , it completed the front of the vehicle

 

Any chance you got a pic? How did you attach it to the car so it would be stable?

Definitely lose the center support and latch. I think the stone guard should go, too, if the bumper is staying off.
How about painting the firewall a contrasting color like an old rod- a checker board or bright color like yellow or red...

​​​​​​cut the hood. Just need to line it up and figure out a way to secure it. I'm thinking 2 bolts in the back corners, sandwiching the hood down.

 

I used a bolt through the fender in to the hood on the back with a hole drilled into the bolt for a clevis pin and use the hood latch on the front. The good thing is the bolts act like a hinge and the hood pivots for access to the rad cap or battery.
