While searching for photographs of 1964 Cutlass (F85's) I began to notice that not alot of the cars I was seeing had outside mirrors? Let alone mirrors on both sides? Were they an option early on? Just Curious.-Thanks Dan

 

Think it was around 1967 the Fed required inside and outside rearview mirrors. Before then, optional on most cars.

 

And even then, only the driver's side was required. My 1984 Custom Cruiser did not get a passenger side mirror from the factory. It also has a weird, stripped down set of options. Crank windows, manual bench seat, manual locks, but A/C, cruise, and anti-spin.

 

My 81 Catalina Safari was optioned out kind of weird too. Manual windows/seat and basic wheelcovers, but A/C, cruise, factory gage package and a very high-line cloth interior. It was ordered for the local Corning Glass plant and used mostly to go pick up their executives at Greensboro or RDU airports.

My Cruiser OTOH came with just about everything except fiber optics and cornering lamps.

I think Fusick is still repopping the 64 Cutlass mirror if you need one.

actually looking for a pair, and Fusick just lists left(drivers side)for 64.
I plan to just get a nice matching pair, that look good on the car and that are functional.
