I was changing the batter on the 65 and found this floating around in the battery tray.
It's shape looks slightly familiar...but I have no clue.

That looks like the plate that retains the gas pedal linkage to the pivot under the dash. If it is that part, its a long way from where it should be.
It's also a long way from 1968 (the first year Olds used a cable accelerator pedal) if the OP's car is a 1965. Note that the plate has four holes, two for screws and two for the locating pins.
I know Joe is the king of all Olds parts application, but the 67 F85 with a six cylinder engine also used a cable accelerator.
Still not a 1965.
Also, the 66-67 L6 cable throttle setup does not use the 68-72 style accelerator that I posted above and does not use that square plate that was being discussed.
Joe, this is what you posted. 1968 (the first year Olds used a cable accelerator pedal) This is what I based my post on.
Ed,
I'm not arguing and I appreciate you pointing that out. My point was that the 66-67 cable throttle systems didn't use the square plate in the accelerator pedal mount that was being referred to until the 1968 model year. I could have been clearer about that.
I forgot the earlier cars used the throttle linkage. I knew the later cars with the plate held the throttle pedal in place by 2 screws, slipped my mind about the 2 alignment holes.
