I have seen a 69 Hurst Olds here on the forum ( apologies i do not remember who owned it) and it had the old style hurst wheels on it, I thought it looked great, as i am redoing my 69 cutlass convertible to look like a 69 H-O I thought it would be great to add Hurst wheels well they are VERY expensive even if repo, but I saw these wheels from Cragar and said man they look darn close... if i can get 4 hurst center caps ( wonder if they would fit LOL) it could be a very cool look.
I know when i was 18-19 you had to have cragars LOL s/s bigges in back and smallies in front,
but what do you think of these wheels? am I crazy or do these look pretty darn close?

Joe i see that the parts place as well as several other places ( year one etc) have the center caps at between 49 and 59 bucks, pricey but not totally outrageous, year one also lists something for 1100+ bucks called center caps but this couldn't be the same could it?

yup they would look good too!!! LOL.. I am out of the loop and didn't know you meant a brand when you said "Indy" wheel, but they look a lot like the hurst wheel too, maybe a little better as they aren't polished...

that'll be for the guy who has a gtotiger or something, no offense to myself but my car just ain't worth 4g wheels, heck not sure if "I" am worth 4 g's LOL... and what good are 4 G wheels if ya have to "sell" the family jewels to get them!! thank you for the tip but way outta my price range for this project...

Im a Mopar guy from "down under", but I came across this thread when I was Googling for Hurst wheel caps.
Here's a couple fo pics to help with your decision making - Im just passing thru but I thought I'd register to help you out with some pics.
I recently fitted a set of CRagar Eliminators on my car for the same reason you are wanting to , they are a dead ringer for the old Hurst wheel (Minus the wheel trim).
I used to run MickeyThompson Eliminators on the rear, and Indy Gassers on the front - but the Cragar is the closes thing Ive found to the old Hurst wheel.
(The car btw is a Chrysler Valiant Charger 1971 - a joint US/Aust Chrysler design - same size as a Duster)
Good luck with the decision - and remember, MOPAR or no car
(Actually I really like the old Super Duty lightweight cars - but don't tell anyone!!

Cragar Eliminators

I like. I'd heard of those Aussie Valiants but never seen one. Looks 67-69 Barracuda-ish. What kind of powertrain do they have?
It's not a well kept secret around here that I like 60s Mopars and Fords. I want a 1970 300-H, but like most other Mopar, they have gotten unaffordable.
Now, had GM based the Holden-derived GTO on something like this (or just called it Monaro and not sacrileged the GTO name) I think they'd have sold better.

My car will be running a stroked 318 with a 4" crank which makes 390 cui with ported 360 heads. Id expect around 400 Crank HP
History - The main thing to know about the Oz car scene in the 60s and 70s is that we never had the domination by cubic inches that the US did (except in imported cars).
The BIG 3 all had a local manufacturing base, but the Chrysler 360 small block was the BIGGEST locally produced V8.
The biggest GM engine was the 350, and the biggest Ford was the 351 Cleveland.
Back to Mopar -
The Oz Mopars ran the slant 6 and the 273 till 1967, then the slant and the 318 until 1971.
Things changed in 71 when Chysler Australia Limited brought over limited #s of 340s and then 360s.
The big difference in 1971 was the introduction of the Aust developed Hemi in line 6 cylinder. This was going to be a Canadian truck engine, but because of design (7 main bearings, 2.02 valves and huge ports) it made for an excellent light weight passenger car engine.
Chrys Aust made the strange decision to develop the Hemi 6 to a point where it became the performance option as well. (this meant not selling the 340s/360s in a performance tune)
The Hemi 6 with triple Dual throat webber carbs made 305 FWHP, and becuase of its light weight, it made for a potent road track combo.
We never had any Big Block stuff assembled locally, especially no Hemi 426 stuff, although a few 383s did get imported for Govt fleet limos etc...
The favourite Govt cars for politicians and officials were both the Pontiac Parisienne and Dodge Polaras (rebadged as Dodge Phenix)
Back to the Hemi 6 cylinder - The pic below is of the triple carb Hemi 6.
One last bit of trivia - The Hemi 6 six pack 6 cylinder in a R/T Valiant Charger held the record for the fastest accelerating 6 cylinder passenger car in the WORLD until the Porsche Carrera Turbo was released in the early 80s.
The 1972 R/T 6 cyl Charger would do 0-60 in 6.1 and the qtr in 14.4.
Not bad for 265 cui !!

Gotta love a six pack on a 6 LOL.... I have seen wicked set ups for sixes not sure if clifford is still in busuness, i saw a tempest sprint with an overhead 6 and a 4bbl, but the mopar is cool,
I think something with that much poer should be dropped into an e type Jag!!! muhahahahahahahaha or even an xk 150 DHC !! vrooooommmm
my idea about the hurst wheel is still spinning around in my noggin ( seems there is lots of unused space) my thought was to find an original hurst cap, and perhaps make a silicone mold and then reproduce the caps in resin, and have them chromed, I have seen plastic sprayed with a high content copper paint, and then nickle plated, I have done some Hobby nickle plating and it really isn't too bad, perfect no, but if the wheels aren't polished then even alumacast paint would look fine IMHO

I guess the issue is demand - how many people need/want them?

Not personally, but I do know the guy who sold them the first Oz Charger to be imported to the US.
I also know their car is not a genuine 6 Pack R/T,(I don't think they ever claimed it was, either)
Iaso know a guy in CA who has imported about 6 of them to various parts of the US - There's two in CA, TWO down in the south somewhere, 1 in OHIO and also one in Canada,
A genine race spec long distance gas tank equipped 6 pack Oz CHarger is worth around $160K US these days!
I also know their car is not a genuine 6 Pack R/T,(I don't think they ever claimed it was, either)

saw this on ebay??? man where do they find this stuff, thought it might have been the cragar wheels we talked about, look cool, but I am not into big wheels, but see how they polished the wheel to look like the trim rings? pretty neat

The wheels you posted the pic of look A LOT better than those overdone Hurst knockoffs you just posted the pic of. At some point of enlargement, those spokes look really ridiculous...probably the lack of any sidewall on the tire that also does it.
I really like the Cragars you posted....if you need Hurst Wheel center cap measurements I can get them for you.

I'm another who is very fond of the Hurst wheel but they are out of my price range.
The Cragar and the Radir are very nice alternatives. I've been considering the Cragar.

The ebay seller is trying to scam would be buyers, he has perchassed them from OASIS Wheels in Anaheim, Ca. (1-714-533-3286)

I work with Jim Wangers, the "Godfather of the GTO" who did a great deal of work with George Hurst back in the day. Matter of fact, Wangers is the guy who sent Hurst to Oldsmobile to bring out the '68 Hurst Olds...the first of the 455s.
