I was talking to a friend of a friend and found out he has a car sitting in his dads garage. It is a 1970 Dodge super bee, 440 6 pack 4 speed, 4.10 gears. The guy bought it in the late 70's and blew the motor trying to see how fast he could get it to go in the early 80's. It's been there ever since. I haven't seen the car yet but was considering making him an offer. He said he would never sell the car and it is completely original. I noticed he really liked my 71 W30.
Would it be a good deal to trade a 71 W30 for his 70 Super bee? I know the Oldsmobiles are far better than the Dodge ever thought of being but they sure are worth some dough.
My W30 has the original block in the shed, and documentation but the H heads are missing. It is very nice, not a show car but very straight and shiney. I figure it's realisticaly worth around $20k.

he was asking 35k for it.

all original plum crazy purple with white vinyl top and white bucket interior,4 speed console and original drivetrain,ram air setup,very nice car.

a 70 6 pack car that needs total resto is a losing proposition compared to your 71 w-30.

besides, a 70 super bee is butt ugly,the limited amount of people that would want it hurts the value..

I hear man, I hear ya!!!
It was just a thought that crossed my shallow mind. The reason I like the 1970 is my dads friend bought a new 70 440 Coronet RT and I got to use it for a couple weeks 25 years ago. It was a real hauler. A low mileaged orange original. I just thought it might make financial sense.
I guess what people say there worth and what you can get for them is a different story. Thanks for the advice.

Plus you don't know how much you would have to do to it just to get it in running condition. he blew the motor so you would have to tear it down and no guarentee it could be rebuilt , and it has been sitting since the 80's? sitting around for 25 years does a car no good.

 

6 pack 4 speed it, might be worth it. Why's your w-30 block in the shed?

I've been told parts are mega $$$$. Maybe some else can chime in.

 

I would say with the 440 six pack option and if the original block/engine is usable and the car overall good condition $30-35,000.

Dang their so ugly but I always thought they were cool cars. I can still remember the cheezy starter motor on the old RT and the tin can doors closing.
I thought they were worth alot more..like twice as much. I guess I have been watching Barret Jackson too much. It looks like a wash or maybe me getting a few bucks if it is a real solid usable car.
My block is in the shed because it needs a rebuild and I have a tendancy to pound the pi$$ out of my cars. I don't like worring about throwing a rod. Maybe I'll get it running before I sell it. But I would still have to find a set of H heads and it just doesn't seem like it's worth paying big money to have them sitting on a shelf.

2 reason's I have never been "into" mopars....the starters sound like crap with the gear reduction....and if you close the door with the window down it sounds like it just fell out on the ground. I just love the quality of the Oldsmobile brand, always the gentleman's musclecar. They never made them plum crazy purple or sublime lime green, but's thats what made them much more appealing to the people they were trying to "target" I think they nailed it perfectly.
