442 cowl tag

Great looking car, FrankieLap!

I see a lot of posts decoding cowl tags. Is there a definitive reference for cowl tag decoding? I ask because I am looking at a 68 442, and the VIN decoder at OldsmobileCentral says that it is a real 442 (the VIN starts with 34487.) I asked the owner for the cowl tag info, and the cowl tag says "68-33687" which TPOCR says is a 2 Door Holiday Coupe S. Should the cowl tag be "68-34487" as well?

Thanks in advance.

I moved this because it is not related to the original thread about a 1971 442.

In any case, this question comes up about once a month...

Thank you, Joe! When I searched on "Cowl Tag" I get about 500 results but mostly individual decoding.

Is there a definitive Cowl Tag Decoder somewhere online, or is the best bet to just post the info here for others to look up?

I asked a similar question a few months ago and a fellow member recommended the booklet "442 by the numbers" sold by Supercars Unlimited. I've found it to be great resource for 65 - 72 442 info. Trim tags for these years as well as lots of other things are covered. Of course your most reliable source would be an OEM chassis service manual, but a complete library covering every year would tend to be a tad expensive.
