1972 CS Tilt wheel column
1972 CS Tilt wheel column
I have a 1972 CS with a standard column with auto on the column. What year cars and models would a tilt column bolt right in for a 72 CS? Any 1970-72 "A" body GM or would some full size tilt columns fit also? Thanks all. Also are those books that list cross references worth the cost? Just wondering.
If you use a 73-77 A body column, you need to swap the mounting plate at the floorboard. If the column has the headlight dimmer on the turn signal lever, make sure you get the jumper harness. It connects the factory dimmer floor mounted dimmer switch connector to the dimmer on the column.
You can go one step further with the column mounted dimmer switch and add the “flash to pass” option. Get a dimmer switch from a mid 90s GM car with “flash to pass” ( 95 Cadillac Fleetsood for example) install it on the column. You will need to add a fused power wire (14 gauge should be plenty) and series 56 female terminal in the unused cavity of the dimmer switch connector. Splice the other end of your new wire to the red power feed wire at the headlight switch. Tidy up your wiring, install the column, and enjoy!!
For those unfamiliar with the “flash to pass”, if you pull back turn signal lever ( AKA the dimmer switch) the high beam headlights come on. Release the turn signal lever, the high beams go out.
