I got a great deal from local GM dealer on some new tires for the wifes truck. The set was ordered in from the supplier. Well, when I picked it up after work and it was dark and did not think about checking date codes. I had the weekend off and the misses had to work so the truck went with her and she got back by this afternoon. I have 3 tires date code 4317 and 1 with 2416.

I will not accept 2 to 3 year old tires that are new. I never had a problem with the last 3 sets of tires I have purchased they were all within 6 months of purchase date.

I know the service manger personally, we used to run together at the track (track and field) when he used to live a mile or so from me. I will show him the tires and pretty much demand a more up to date set!

Typical move these days, warehouses try to dump old merchandise on un-suspecting buyers so they dont have to eat the cost. Good thing youre not an unsuspecting buyer. Ive even had a retailer send me defective item(video card) that had already been returned once before, they just put it back into inventory and sold it again.

 

i knew an old boy that worked in a tire shop all his life.he said when he was close to needing tires he would buy a set and put em in his basement for 6 months or so to cure.did it help?who knows.

 

What ailment did the tires have that needed to be cured?

I have rejected tires at Discount Tire for the same reason and made them bring in newer mfg dated tires.

Well the tire warehouse told the dealer and myself that tires "have a 10 year shelf life" I told the service writer. I don't buy into that at all! All tire repair places will not repair a 10 year old tire new or used. Writer told me I can't do anything and that to talk to the Manager whom I know and was on vacation.

As of yesterdays conversation with the service manager tried the shoe on the other foot deal and said you guys sell 1 or 2 year old equipment at your place. I said yes but our equipment goes max 25 mph or less off road with nobody else in close proximity and I mentioned the one tire is 3.5 years old already. He said he would personally call the supplier. Well the upshot of the last phone call was I have a fresh set with this years date codes coming for you and we will swap them out.

That's good and how it should be. That first argument he said of tire being acceptable in stock up to 10 years is like saying "we will sell them to you today, but they will be outdated and out of warrantee tomorrow and we won't touch them again" . Now if they had put them on clearance as blems or something and sold them at a further discount, and the buyer knew then that would be OK. If a person knows they will be driving high mileage and will wear the tires out in 4-5 years they would most likely be ok for them.

 

More than likely this will happen with these tires. A buyer that doesn't know how to read the date code will never know.

 

i used to drive over 60k a year so pretty much a set of tires every year.they wouldn't bother me.the last new tires i bought were dated 2 weeks before i bought em

 

I just bought a set of tires for my Oldsmobile from Sam's Club and the tires were all 2018 or newer. To get tires that old; especially from the dealer, is a no go. Glad they got it figured out for you.
