By the side of the road

Happened across this when visiting Santa Monica, California last weekend. Doing apparently daily-driver service, it was parked on a side street right along with all the late model Lincolns and Mercedes. It's a '56 Olds, although all identifying markings and most of the trim has been removed. A little weird. But it looks to be in excellent shape.

There's a thread here where someone is asking about using a '68 Delta 88 as a daily driver and what's involved in using a car that old in that way. Here's an owner that certainly knows the answer to that question.

Like I always say if restored like it was when new there is no reason why you can't drive them like we did when they were new. It's not a big deal....... Tedd

Seems to be in the process of restoration. Single exhaust. Back up lights delete. It's either a Jetaway in park or a manual in reverse. It's not a 98. Either a Super 88 or a base 88. As mentioned, badges are missing. Base 88 didn't have a trunk badge, but both 88 and Super 88 had fender badges. 12-16 mpg premium gas.....

The owner either chose to eliminate the trim for economy reasons or just to customize it a little. It does look clean. To me it looks to be a base model but nice..... Tedd

Not a bad looking ride, especially for a daily driver... Curious as to the age of the driver... It would be good to see some younger drivers out and about with these older vehicles on a daily basis, it will help keep the interest alive for a long time to come...
