Crossing over to Olds

What's up? I'm new to Olds...picking up a nice coupe (project) '56 88. I know old Fords and have restored a few...but don't know much about Olds.

What is the difference between a Super 88 and a regular 88? I've read the Super 88 had a center bar on the front bumper...but that's all I know.

The car I'm getting is dry, all there, Factory A/C, auto, V8, etc. But I want to learn more.

Who are the good parts/resto suppliers? Who knows about updating the chassis?

Thanks!

Welcome to our site! Creative username too. Is your car going to be flat black with red steel wheels and wide whites? For parts, shop Kanter and Fusick. They both have stuff for you car. I have no answer to your question as I am at work and don't have my references.

"Regular" 88?

Unlike the "regular cars" you are familiar with, Oldsmobile did not make a "regular" anything.

Mechanically,
88 = 2 barrel cab and Super 88 = 4 barrels,

If an automatic trans was chosen,
88 = Hydra-matic (NDSLR) and S88 = Jetaway (PNDSLR).

Cosmetically,

the badges on the lower front fenders.

As far as I know, both grills were the same. Grill guards would have been options on the 88, S88, and 98.

Depends what parts you are looking for.

For "Olds specific" stuff, Fusicks Catalog is a good start.

Thumbs up Thanks everyone!

Sweet. Good to feel welcome in Olds territory. I'll do some homework on the car and post a couple of pics soon.

Appreciate the tips/info/advice and welcome.

And yes, ratrocket, some kind of suede (leaning black), painted steelies, wides, but a good solid driver.
