Removing Wiper Blades

How does one remove the stainless steel Trico wiper blades from the wiper arms on a 1970 Cutlass. I know they clip into the grove of the arm but I have yet to figure out how they disengage. I have replacement blades and I do not want to damage the stainless Tricos. I may want to put them back on if I find replacement refills. I need operational wipers for my summer drives when a T storm can sometimes blow through. I am very much mechanically inclined and have done a lot of work on my car on my own but these things have me baffled as to unclipping them without forcing things or flipping out and putting a hammer through the windshield.

They make a tool to help do this. If they have not been off in years, they are probably really stuck. Pull the wiper from glass, then pull the barrel splined off , must try to keep it square with the post, so it pull off and not bind to one side, to side. The tool helps you do that.

I believe the OP is asking about removing the blade from the arm, not the arm from the post. The Chassis Service Manual is your friend:

Yes Joe, I think you are correct, I did not read it right. Recovering from major surgery, may not be thinking as good as I think I am.

Thank you, I was on the right track but wasn’t sure if I would break something or bend something that wasn’t meant to be bent so I left them alone. I have removed the arm from the post on a Cadillac I had. They are set up the same way. The car is away for now until spring. May change them during the winter. I had previously just replaced the blades with refills.
