1957 pivot arm bushings

1957 pivot arm bushings
I am about to replace the pivot arm bushings on the upper and lower control arms of my 57 olds 98. Any tricks on making this go more smoothly?
The manual says to hold the pivot arm centered while the bushings cut new threads as you tighten them into place....
I used an impact wrench to remove the old ones, I assume I'll need to use the same to put the new ones in.
What keeps the new bushings from just compressing the ends of the control arm together?
Any tips would be appreciated as I really would like to only do this once.

Bill , Please don't use an impact wrench to install these.
Is your " manual " a 1957 Oldsmobile Shop Manual ?
If not , get one here ;

That shows the correct procedure .

Thanks for the input about the impact wrench.
Yes, I have the 1957 Olds shop manual, I’d really be adrift without it!
As with most procedures I haven’t done before it always seems to be useful to hear from someone who has already done it in order to fill in some detail......
