How many Jetfire's do I need?

How many Jetfire's do I need?

Not 100% but almost. Looks like I will be bringing this 63 Jetfire home soon. Fresh restoration but needs some little details and a little tuning. It is a 4 speed car but was originally an automatic. It was also a blue car but this is an available color for 63.

I am not a huge 63 fan but I really like this one.

This did not work out with the right timing but I would love to have gotten this to the MCACN show. This deal is still pending that I look it over in person. I know alot about the car but need to look it over in person before the deal is 100% done. We are headed down to look, and hopefully get, this car in the next two weeks.

As you may have seen from my road trip thread. We have this car home now. Tonight I got rid of the aftermarket steering wheel and added this one from a 62. It is not in good shape and I painted it red but till I find a better one it will do.

It's hard to tell in the pics that the steering wheel you installed is anything but perfect. If it has cracks and such consider restoring it. Here's a great product that I've used before:

The wheel needs restored for sure but is not bad the way it is. I would like to find a correct 63 wheel though. The worst part about this one is the chrome in the center and the cap. Has lots of pitting on it. That and my paint job was not very good. The spray can I used started spitting half way through.

I've done a few steering wheels repairs and uses PC 11( very much like PC 7 but white) and used a hardened urethane enamel as a finish coat with good results. The few times I have used spray bomb finish coats it soon soften and peeled. My skin sweats paint remover so a hardened finish is needed for me.

There are a few tricks to restoring a steering wheel if it is cracked severally that can bring back a throwaway piece back to driver status or better using super glue and styrofoam material plus the products used above.... Tedd

It doesn't give an OE look, but I have a steering wheel cover from these guys on my 71 98. I need to use the kit above to repair some cracks in the steering wheel. For now, it looks pretty good though.

It definitely looks like it belongs there more so then the other one... There are several DIY videos on the net for repairing these type steering wheels as well as some professionals who charge big bucks...

I am getting more done on the car. They had the speedometer cable ran on the exhaust manifold and melted it. I pulled it out and was able to fix it without any trouble. Also adjusted the shifter a little while I was there. Now I have an issue with it dying on me. I am about 90% sure it is a fuel supply problem.

Also working on the boost gauge. The internal pressure coil was plugged up. I had to drill a hole in the back of it to fix it and then soldered it back up. Still having trouble getting it back together and adjusted correct.

I will get a picture posed of them all together. I have three of them and all the same color. Two 62's and this 63. We are not keeping this one long term. It was restored but still needed lots of details. We bought it with the plan to finish and rework some of it and take it to a couple shows and then resell it. Going to have more work in it than I planned.

Was able to put more time into this car today. Got the boost gauge fixed and reinstalled, installed the new glove box, and also worked on the problem of it dying on me. Looks like the NOS fuel pump is bad and not pumping consistently. Took it for a drive and when it died I pushed the clutch in and stopped. Pulled the float cover and it the bowl was empty. After a while it fired up and made it back home.

Finely got to take this car for a good drive! I replaced the fuel pump and it did not fix the dying problem. I was confused because I felt sure that was the problem. I pulled the tank and the fuel sock was rigged on it and was not the correct one for the car. I replaced it but did not need to clean out the tank. It was spotless inside. I had perfect flow between the tank and pump and from the pump to carburetor with the fuel pump unhooked. I hooked up the fuel pump and went for a drive and it died again. Now I was really mad. I had a third NOS pump and thought what the heck, I installed it and now it runs great! Turned out that I had two bad pumps.

It drives very nice now and is a pleasure to drive. The turbo boosts just like it should and is hitting 6 psi. Even the fluid injection is working just like it should.

I drove it to my body guys house and suspected he would find bad bodywork. I am not a body guy to see what he can see. I was very pleased with his report. He said the body work and paint was great! He did complain just a little about the drivers door and hood alignment. The driver door has to be slammed harder than I want to get it closed and he showed me why. I will be taking it to him soon and let him adjust the hood and door. Likely also let him readjust the door glass.

Next is working on the trunk mat and the hood insulation.

Now for the big test. I feel the car is finely safe for the road so we are taking it out for a family drive. I have a list a mile long that the car still needs but the weather is great today so we will go for Ice cream and may head to the old Cataract general store for a couple pictures. Keep your fingers crossed for a good drive.

The drive went well. I did find a minor oil leak. I will get that fixed tomorrow.
