I want to widen the gap at the top and bottom front edge because the belt line corner is rubbing inside the fender when I open the door. Is this as easy as loosening the three bolts each at the top and bottom of the a-pillar? I did that and I'm not really getting enough easy movement. I got the top to widen, but after that I loosened the lower bolts and lifted the rear of the door and it won't lift. I checked the useless assembly manual and can't find anything on doors and I did a search on this site too.

Are you sure the fender doesn't need to come out a small amount to make room for door to open!

 

I'm not sure, but the door was already slightly further in than the fender at the upper edge and the gap on the other door is also quite a bit bigger at the front gap. I'm pretty sure I have it loose. I guess I just wanted to make sure that the hinges or doors have oval adjustment slots like other cars where you can move the doors relative to the hinges that would allow me to lift and lower the rear edge of the door. I really don't see any other way to do it unless maybe they use some kind of shims...

Here are pics of adjustment plates, the sat inside the door jam under A Pillar and also inside doors. they move up, down, and around. Not oval, but square. hope this helps

 

Ok. Excellent. So, I should be able to pretty much adjust the way I thought. Odd, because I had the bolts fairly loose. Usually, after I widen the gap at the top, I kind of tighten that end, but not so firmly and then loosen the bottom hinge to bring the door up again, while using the slightly tightened hinge as the rotating point. Maybe I had it a little too tight... Thanks for the pointers and pictures....

 

Since it looks like you are restoring your car or have done so. Do you have a source for the original beige fiber mats (roughly 1/8"?) with the plastic foil backing that they used on the floor boards? I know most people probably replace it with a newer type of bitumen or other insulation, but I still like keeping things like they were and my original insulation isn't really good enough to go back in the car.
