Olds heads

Olds heads

Looked at some Olds heads ( so He said ) with the numbers n6788 61 Anyone know what engine they belong to? ( He didn't know ) And if they are decent,good or great heads to work with building a performance engine..?

Nothing Oldsmobile as far as I can tell.
Best to post a pic. of them.
'64 to 76 Olds heads have a letter or a number near the spark plug on one side.
May be from a early head, if you can get some pic's, somebody will be able to help.

What "numbers" were those? Casting numbers? Stamped engine unit numbers? Located where? Did these even LOOK like Olds heads?

It did look like your picture.....Where exactly are the head numbers identified?

Casting numbers are located above the center two exhaust ports and are raised. Note the lower head in this photo.




A stamped engine unit number was used on the 1964-67 engines and was stamped on the end of the passenger side head.



Assuming your N678861 is the stamped engine unit number, the "N" prefix would indicate a 1966 425 4bbl motor. I assume these are "B" casting heads? Casting number above the center two exhaust ports would be 389395 in that case.

Yes Joe the numbers were on the end like your picture.. ( sweet picture ) Is that your engine? Great shape...He said there was a block number of 389244 D.....Good ? Ok? Bad? Lol!

No, unfortunately I just stole that one off the web.

A 1966-67 425 block, consistent with the "N" prefix on the heads.
