I finally made it in! I have a 69' 442 with AC. The AC doesn't work and I don't plan on restoring it at this time.My question is how do I get cool air vented into the car? I don't have vent windows or kicker vents either. I did slide the **** on my heater AC selector to vent and temp to cool but I'm not getting any air through my dash vents. any ideas?? thanks....
Is there air blowing from the floor or defroster vents? It may be that the vacuum reservoir on the firewall is disconnected. It's a round ball in about the center of the firewall behind the engine. It should have a vacuum hose connected to the intake manifold and another going through the firewall to the AC blend door under the dash. Many times the hose from the intake manifold to the vacuum reservoir is removed for whatever reason.
What I mean by floor vents is there should be vents under the dash for the heater and they blow down towards the floorboards. When vacuum to the HVAC control is lost, the air blows out of those lower vents instead of the upper dash vents.
Agreed with Mr. Yellow'. Best bet is to get the shop(s) manual(s), AIM (assembly information manual or assembly manual) Fisher Body manual and all the other manuals available for this car. You need to see the HVAC schematics showing the vacuum and electrical systems. It will show the location of the vac lines and the blend door actuators under the passenger side kick panel etc...Once you get the vacuum working you can go through the rest to see whats not working. And you will have the info for when you restore the rest of the AC system. At least two vendors have the parts and service support for most of that system. Vintage Auto Air and Classis Auto Air. Log on to Wild About Cars dot com, info there as well.
