Installing W-30 Ducts in Core Support 67 442 any pointers

This weeks project will be cutting the openings and installing a new reproduction set of "OAI" (outside Air induction) ducts in the core support of a 67 442. This core support is out and after I get all the work done to install the ducts it will be sand blasted and primered and painted then all will be reassembled. If anyone has any advise or pointers on doing this I welcome input.

Thanks in advance

Larry

What would be really slick is to source someone to make you a die or a knockout kit for this. I'm sure other 67 owners would be very interested. As you know the factory holes were die cut whereas the Track Pac cars were crudely cut by the dealer or the customer. That said, it leaves the cut style wide open.
Another option if you wanted to go the die cut route is to find a competent machine shop that has the ability to die cut metal, or has a larger mill to jig it into for precise cuts. I wouldn't think this labor would be cost prohibitive, especially since the support is mobile. I guess it comes down to what you're looking for as the end result. Drill and careful cutting then finishing with a die grinder could be another solid method?

Does anyone possess a picture of both a factory and customer cut support? I have or had a factory picture but can not locate it.

Lem take pictures and share, please.

Found the Track pac support pic. Note the rough edges when the pic is enlarged.
Consider having the support powder coated too. Budy did this with a 20% (I think) flattener and it turned out great. Much more durable than paint. Wasn't expensive either.

There is factory literature with the template and possibly was also in the Track pack kit when purchased. The isn't a whole lot of room for the bezels with headlight buckets installed and trim so that pretty much outlines where the cut should be. The template does show where holes should be located also for mounting. I cant put my hands on it though.

I got the template. it is all marked out and ready to cut will work on the tomorrow. Jon Mott sent me some pics of the W30 I found him a few years ago it has the stamped one. I will be very careful to do a good job and will post pictures as I go.

Thanks for the input.

When I did the cutouts on my 66, I marked it and cut very carefully with a new 4" cutoff wheel. It came out almost perfect. Little touch up with a fine file and it looked almost like it was stamped.

After getting some input from those who have done it and looked over the factory stamped ones from the car Jon Mott had, I made the first cuts today. Roughed in yet but pretty close. Drilled the corners and then used a die grinder with a cut off wheel. Will file a little to make it real nice.

So far I am pleased with the results.
