Hey, I'm Andrew. I'm new to classic oldsmobile and i just want to ask you about my 74 olds 442. Is it worth restoring?Is it eye catching?Is it fast? Its an original 74 442 numbers matching, 455 engine,white top/interior, blue with white stripes, swivel buckets... This car has every option you can have. So what do you think, worth restoring? Welcome to the site. If the car means a lot to you and/or family of course its worth restoring. It seems the 73 and ups are starting to gain some traction lately as there are more owners showing up on here everyday. Most restorations are about love.

 

Go for it. When you finish restoring it, you will thank yourself later. You dont see too many 74 442 around.

 

Worth..? Money wise? Probably not. I have many many grands more invested on my car than i could get from it. But such is the thing with most cars, if you dont own an exotic, and after that it also should be lusted for.
Throw any logical reasoning to trash-bin, and its def. worth it, and more. Just forgot money, and its worth it.

Definitely, it means a lot to the family, my grandfather is the original owner, got if brand new in 1974. Restoration will start in January. Thanks for your words

Fog-lamps behind grilles? Ive always figured how 74' would look without front bumber, with those massive grilles. I think it would look amazing. Do i see wrong or is it hit on passengers side at front?

Andrew where is the car located? I'm not that familiar with foreign license plates. Truthfully you need another 74-75 Cutlass S or 442 to replace the body on that car. Looks like the hood is rusty at the front edge too?

 

Original 455 makes this car special, I say do it but only for yourself and not for profit because none will be there. You probably will loose money if you try and sell it soon after the resto.

 

Congratulations on deciding to save that piece of your families legacy Andrew. There are many of us that also appreciate the Colonnades as well the prior generations. As g=suggested start a build thread, and a parts wanted thread so you can start a shopping list.

There are currently no Lebanese registered cars on the list. There are 17 European cars registered with two in Turkey, one is a 75 Hurst Olds.

 

I would join the local Lebanon Olds Club and see if you get any response to parts wanted.

 

Well, I would join the 73-77 Olds registry. I have a 1976 442 in Lebanon too, the only one with a 455 in the country, I am Lebanese as my friend Andrew here. My father had a 1974 442 the same as Andrew's color, options, stripes numbers matching car 455.
