Thumbs down The Great Race

I have been reading about with awe the Great Race...this year it is from California to Illinois and travels to and past some great scenery and monuments. I can't participate this year due to travel plans. I would like to participate next year with my sons.
Curious if any of you have participated in the race. I think it would be exciting.

Granbury, Texas was the home of the Great Race when Tom McRae who passed away a few years back, and Norman Miller acquired the rights back in the early 80's. Its pretty cool and participants come from all over. I personally have never participated but have many friends who have. We used to have the Hall of Fame Museum here up until Toms death.

Just for the heck of it I read the rules...it is intence and not a simple joy ride. I think I'll try a few short local car rallies to get my feet wet. It will take a year to get my ride ready for such a long hall.

It is an intense , long ride! I do not ever intend to participate, but had the chance 2 years ago to check it out at one of the stops.

It was a lot of fun to see all the cars coming in, speak with the drivers and see them do repairs in the parking lot. No GPS and a lot of paper navigation.

If you do ever get a chance when they come through your area, I definitely recommend checking it out!
