Weren't those SX's $4000 when they were new?

 

some cars only experienced a slight decline..others were more pronounced...outside a venue such as BJ where people with money are in the crowd its terribly slow...40% decline since last year seems the norm

 

Unfortunately many sellers seem to think that there is some relationship between BJ and the real world. There's a 67 442 on ebay right now where the seller claims in large red letters that a 67 442 just sold for $45K at BJ, so his should be worth at least half of that. Of course, he neglects to factor in that his car has an incorrect motor and trans...

 

seen that ad...i expected those ads to pop up 5 minutes after BJ ended..your assessment of BJ is dead on and sellers who think they are sitting on a pot of gold when they are not

 

There's an old saying that a car's only worth what people are willing to pay for it. Auctions like BJ are a spectacle because they bring people with big bucks and old cars together in the same place. Buyer beware, not all BJ cars are worth the price, and some buyers get what they deserve.
A lot of those guys are just speculators driving up the price of a commodity and I thought the sour economy might shake some of them out this year. (anyone remember Arabian horses?) As for me, I'm just a guy with an unrestored SX rootin' for the brand.

 

I liked the Black 49 Olds 88 Fastback with the 50 88 crown moldings

it looked great on the block * with the 10% buyers fee total cost $37,400

 

In a similar vein, I like to point out the virtually all of the high dollar cars listed on ebay do not sell. Go to "advanced search" sometime, type in "442" (or whatever your passion) and check "completed auctions". Note how many of the cars are actually sold. I'm even suspicious of the ones that ARE sold, because many reappear a week or two later. Never confuse asking price with selling price.

 

I know were talking about prices but I just have to say, did you notice how fast the 60's and 70's Oldsmobiles were rushed on and off the stage? I don't think they actually stopped pushing that yellow 69 442 convertible. And it was almost as if it was break time for the camera man and the two guys that are near the cars . Where'd they go? no picking apart the vin tags? no interior pics? no chassis cam? They would have been all over a Hemi Cuda or an LS6.

 

Barrett Jackson is a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!! they are not car guys they are money guys pure and simple... I don`t care if its a F-85,Cutlass, Cutlass Supreme,442 or W30 they are all sweet cars and thats what hot rodding and classic muscle is all about............Having fun and getting the big S#$t eating grin when you open the garage open the car door getting that sweet smell of 30 plus years and then the fumes from starting the baby up and hearing and feeling her rumble... or drive it down main street.......... or laying a patch down the road.........the joys are endless and thats why I LOVE IT...... as I get off the podium.......
