Rear end carrier differences

Anyone know why two Type O carriers would be different?

By buddy is building a 1970 Vista Cruiser up, and the carrier was bad. So, he had a spare Type O from his 442. But, the axles from the Vista Cruiser's Type O rear end won't work with the Type O out of the 442. They are both 1970 cars too.

Anyone have any ideas? We know that we can get some axles from a 442 to work, but Why would they be different?? Is it because the vista is a larger car?

Thanks for any help.

Have you checked spline count? The Type O carriers came with two different spline counts. The factory parts book lists three different axle shafts for 1970 A-body Type O axles (including VCs).
